Bat-Eating Spiders Are Everywhere
LiveScience has posted an interesting article by Charles Choi on bat-eating spiders. According to researchers, arachnids with a taste for various bat species can be found on every continent, except Antarctica. Web-building spiders that construct giant orb-webs are among the most successful bat catchers, studies indicate. It is believed that ensnarement of bats are rare given that bats are likely capable of detecting spider webs via echolocation. Still, as the photo shows, there are successful captures.
