Hubble Snaps Horsehead Nebula

To celebrate 23 years on the job, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has snapped this spectacular view of the Horsehead Nebula. Launched on April 24, 1990, the Hubble observatory captured the iconic nebula in infrared light, revealing the object's inner regions usually obscured by thick clouds of dusty material. "The result is this rather fragile-looking structure, made of delicate, wispy folds of gas — very different to the nebula's appearance in the visible," explains Joe Liske, an astronomer from the European Southern Observatory.
