Solar photographer Alan Freidman produced an out-of-this-world image of the solar surface during the Transit of Venus. The breathtaking close-up view shows the sun's turbulent sea of fire in outstanding detail. The planet Venus can be seen silhouetted against the swirling maelstrom.
