The Elephant Who Can Speak

An Asian elephant in a South Korean zoo has learned how to reproduce five Korean words in a human-like voice. The 22-year-old male, Koshik, "speaks" by placing his trunk inside his mouth to modulate sound. Experts think the elephant learned to imitate human speech as a way to bond with his trainers when he was a young animal. According to the journal Current Biology, Koshik sometimes he speaks when prompted and at other times without any encouragement. More details, including video of Koshik speaking, at Mail Online.
