Thunderstorms Halt Lawn Chair Balloon Flight
Gas station owner Kent Couch and Iraqi adventurer Fareed Lafta, who lifted into the Oregon sky Saturday on lawn chairs tethered to 350 helium balloons, were forced to abort their flight due to thunderstorms. The daring duo were attempting to float some 400 miles from Bend, Oregon to Montana. Coach and Lafta traveled about 30 miles from their starting point, descending from an altitude of 10,000 feet by shooting out their balloons with a BB rifle. More at The Washington Post.
