A mysterious "boing" in the North Pacific that has puzzled marine scientists for 50 years has been traced to breeding minke whales. Though the sound has a vague mechanical quality to it, a research vessel near the Hawaiian Islands finally tracked it to one of the whales, using hydrophones linked to a computer.
