Scientists continue to work toward designing a realistic robot which can pass for a human. The FACE robot, developed by researchers from the University of Pisa, can display a range of emotions from happiness to sadness to anger. Software called Hybrid Engine for Facial Expressions Synthesis (HEFES) and a series of 32 motors allow the robot to simulate different human expressions, though not quite well enough to bridge the creepy 'uncanny valley.'
