Ancient of Days

Taking place this weekend in Roswell, is the Ancient of Days Conference. Pictured is David Flynn discussing Cydonia'sconnection to Earth's ancient mythologies and serpent deities from the 2003 conference.Organizer Guy Malone writes: Ancient of Days 2004 is designed to bring the best modern UFO andabduction researchers together with the Biblical ancient text scholars(but not debunkers) from 2003's event in an amiable environment. All 14speakers will present to a somewhat skeptical world that these phenomenaare real, and worthy of continued scientific and theological inquiry. After hearing one another out, speakers will close the event with a3-hour panel discussion, to discuss/debate the possible origins andmeanings of the group's combined data, and the intersection of themodern reports and ancient texts.

Rare Midwest Quake

At 1:11 AM CT on Monday morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 struck in northern Illinois, epicentered near the town of Ottawa. Quakes in this area are quite rare, but have been previously recorded in 1881, 1912, and 1972. The three-second temblor was felt over a wide swath of the Midwest, including areas in Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri. Coast listener Shawn N. of Racine, WI wrote in to describe his experience: "The house gently shook for at least 5 seconds. I thought I was hallucinating or something until I came across a link online that verified it as an earthquake...Never thought I'd see the day when an earthquake would hit in the Midwest! After months of monsoon-like rain, and tornadoes, and now an earthquake?!...something strange is going on here..."

Fixing Hubble

A robotic mission to save the Hubble Telescope will launch in 2007 if the funding can be approved. A Canadian company, MD Robotics, which was involved in the 1993 repair of Hubble, has a two-armed robot known as the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (artist conception pictured) which is being considered for the task of installing new batteries and motion-controlled gyroscopes for the telescope. A flight-ready "Dexter" is already completed and ready to be used for repair work on the International Space Station. "It's not a question of whether it will work, it's a question of whether we can build a copy of it in time to be able to contribute to saving the Hubble," Paul Cooper of MD Robotics told the Associated Press. The robot, which can be controlled from the ground, has seven-jointed arms which end in "hands" that can work with a variety of tools, and are said to be able to touch and feel, not unlike a human.

Einstein's Dreams

In Einstein's Dreams, author and physicist Alan Lightman records a series of meditations about the nature of time that Einstein might have imagined while working as a patent clerk in Berne, Switzerland. An excerpt from the book follows:"In this world, it is instantly obvious that something is odd. No houses can be seen in the valleys or plains. Everyone lives in the mountains. At some time in the past, scientists discovered that time flows more slowly the further from the center of the earth. The effect is minuscule, but it can be measured with extremely sensitive instruments. Once the phenomenon was known, a few people, anxious to stay young, moved to the mountains. Now all houses are built on Dom, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and other high ground. It is impossible to sell living quarters elsewhere. Many are not content simply to locate their homes on a mountain. To get the maximum effect, they have constructed their houses on stilts. The mountaintops all over the world

Night Gallery

In 1969, five years after The Twilight Zone, creator-host Rod Serling introduced TV audiences to Night Gallery. Set in a mysterious museum, Serling prefaced each week's spine-chilling tale by unveiling a dark, sometimes bizarre, painting. The portrait to the left was painted by Jaroslav Gebr for one of the pilot episode stories called "Eyes," about a rich blind woman who goes to extreme lengths in order to see. Interestingly, this segment was Steven Spielberg's first industry job. Serling's intro to "Eyes" follows..."Objet d'art number two: a portrait. Its subject, Miss Claudia Menlo, a blind queen who reigns in a carpeted penthouse on Fifth Avenue. An imperious, predatory dowager who will soon find a darkness blacker than blindness. This is her story." (play audio clip)To view more paintings and read more about Night Gallery visit

Face to Face

In an article on his website titled Was the “Face” Depicted 4,500 Years Ago? (scroll down), Sumerian scholar Zecharia Sitchin draws a parallel between an ancient cylinder seal kept at the Hermitage Museum and NASA's photograph of the Face on Mars. "It was a discerning fan…who drew my attention to the similarity between the Face in the NASA photographs…and the helmeted face of the astronaut on Mars as depicted on the Sumerian seal…Though one is shown full face and the other (in the seal) in profile, the similarity is nothing short of uncanny!" Sitchin declares, concluding that the Sumeriansknew of the Face on Mars 4,500 years ago.

Cayce & Reincarnation

Is intuitive David Wilcock (right) the reincarnation of the great American psychic Edgar Cayce (left)? Click on the picture to view the uncanny similarity in their faces. Cayce who lived from 1877 to 1945, came to believe in reincarnation, and in fact found that many of the people he did readings for had earlier lives in Atlantis. According to Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical & Paranormal Experience, Cayce named a variety of his own past lives which besides being an Atlantean, included a "celestial being" that descended prior to Adam & Eve, Ra-Ta, an Egyptian high priest from 10,600 years ago, and Lucius of Cyrene who was referred to in the New Testament as being a minor disciple of Jesus.--L.L.

Texas Asteroid Impact

The site known as the Marquez Dome, 60 miles from Waco, TX, is actually the remnants of a huge crater formed during an asteroid impact 58 million years ago, scientists now say.Previously thought to be a salt dome, the crater filled in with rock over geologic time. During the intial impact, the asteroid left a crater some 8 miles wide. The incident may well have had global consequences as "the amount of energy released was around 10 million to 100 million megatons," said Bill Deane, a University of Tenn. geology professor. The Ghost of Nessie

Kevin Carlyon, high priest of the British Coven of White Witches, believes the legendary monster of Loch Ness exists but only as a spirit. To prove his point, Carlyon is planning to hold a nighttime seance in the middle of the lake to raise the ghost of Nessie. "With excellent technical wizardry I am going to set out to prove that Nessie is a spook, a ghost from a bygone age that only a special few can ever view. I am sure that after this, visitors to Scotland will enjoy more sightings of the creature."The seance will begin at sunset on July 2, 2004 and be broadcast over the Internet. More at

Cell Phone Virus

Antivirus companies have discovered a worm called Cabir that can infect mobile phones. The worm appears to have been created by an international group of virus writers as a "proof of concept", and is capable of jumping from phone to phone via Bluetooth wireless technology. Experts have been warning for some time that Bluetooth networks were potentially vulnerable to exploitation.Fortunately, Bluetooth's transmission range is limited to 30 feet, so experts believe the worm is not a serious threat. Still, the emergence of Cabir is a harbinger of future threats and means consumers will need to consider security options when purchasing a new wireless mobile device. Spotlight on: Shafica

George Noory wasn't the first in his family to delve into the paranormal. His late aunt, Shafica Karagulla M.D. (pictured) was a Los Angeles-based psychiatrist who became fascinated with brain states and consciousness, and in her seminal work, Breakthrough to Creativity, she wrote about how each person could access higher states of awareness. In his latest monthly column for UFO Magazine, George writes about his first out-of-body experience, and the conversations that followed with his Aunt that led him into further investigations of the paranormal. Additional books authored or co-authored by Shafica Karagulla include: The Chakras and the Human Energy Fields and Through the Curtain. --L.L.
