Phone Calls From the Dead

One of the subjects 12/30/13 guest Cal Cooper has studied is a very eerie occurrence that a number of people have reported. They actually receive a phone call from someone who has died, usually a close relative or friend.

Fire in the Sky

Residents in five Midwestern states were shaken by the sight of an enormous fireball that streaked across the night sky on Wednesday evening. While the National Weather Service is uncertain as to what exactly caused the phenomena, they suspect it may have been a meteoroid entering the atmosphere, since the Gamma Virginids meteor shower is in the midst of a 48 hour window of peak activity. Archaeologists in Egypt are hopeful that they have finally discovered the long sought-after tombs of Cleopatra and Marc Anthony. The potential breakthrough in their search is the result of radar scanning which has found three different locations that could be the burial site of the historic duo.

Any Belief Lights Up Brain

Dr. Alasdair Coles, an Anglican priest and lecturer in neurology at University of Cambridge, has reviewed several brain imaging studies involving people of faith in an attempt to discover if there are unique brain signatures for religious experiences. Coles concluded that there were "no differences in the signatures for verifiable or unverifiable beliefs," meaning the brain image of a Madonna fan humming along to one of her songs would likely look the same as one of a religious person singing a spiritual song.

Dolphins Block Pirates

The news agency, Xinhuanet is reporting that thousands of dolphins blocked Somali pirate ships from attacking a fleet of Chinese merchants ships passing the Gulf of Aden on Monday. According to the report, the pirates turned away and "could only lament their littleness before the vast number of dolphins."

Imaginary Arm Confirmed

A woman's imaginary arm has been confirmed by doctors in Switzerland. After she suffered a stroke, the 64-year old patient began reporting the presence of a translucent third arm, that she could actually use to scratch itches. The puzzling condition is known as SPL (supernumerary phantom limb). More here.

'Tree' in Patient's Lung

A five-centimeter fir tree was found in the lung of a man in Central Russia last week. Doctors conducting a biopsy (as they thought he had a tumor) were surprised to see green needles in the cut.
