With all the talk on Coast to Coast AM about
the universe, alien life and intelligence, other worlds, the spirit world,
the strife and troubles here on Earth due to politics, religion, societal
beliefs, etc., I think it is important to take a step back, examine the
natural world around us, and see and appreciate the unique and beautiful
phenomena that surround us here on Earth. I'm an aurora photographer in Anchorage,
Alaska, and also an ardent Coast to Coast AM listener. Several nights ago
(September 16, 2003), during the recent full moon and with a clear view of
Mars, I was was enjoying the aurora borealis at a lake near my home. In this
photo (below), the northern lights shimmer above the lake, while the moon casts its
glow on the landscape. It's a view we often see here in Alaska, however I
thought the listeners nationwide would enjoy seeing this unique display as
well.
