In the spring of 2000 I visited the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. The museum
happens to have on display Lincoln's chair that he was sitting in at Ford's
Theater, as well as Kennedy's Limo from Dallas among other Presidential
Limos and sedans.
We paused at the Kennedy Limo, (which was later fitted
with a bulletproof glass dome for President Johnson). I explained to my daughter
how 98 years after Lincoln's assassination, President Kennedy was killed in
this very car in 1963. I explained to her that he was shot in Dallas, but
I didn't go into the gory details.
Not far from the car was a wax mold
machine, and it featured a bust of Kennedy. She asked if we could make a
souvenir (the mold that came out is what you see in the
photo below).
When I saw the result, I was shocked that it looked like the autopsy results
I've seen. I had to show someone. I took it to
the gift shop nearby and asked if this was "some kind of sick joke"? The
clerk said they had not seen the machine do that before, perhaps it was low
on plastic? After checking it they found it to be working normal except for
my single sample.
