Patrick Buchanan, America's leading populist conservative, was a senior advisor to three American Presidents, ran twice for the Republican nomination in 1992 and 1996, and was the Reform Party's Presidential candidate in 2000. He is the author of several books, including The Death of the West and Where the Right Went Wrong, as well as Right from the Beginning, and A Republic, Not an Empire. Mr. Buchanan is a syndicated columnist, a political analyst for MSNBC, and a founding member of three of America's foremost public affairs shows, NBC's The McLaughlin Group, and CNN's The Capitol Gang and Crossfire. He is also Editor Emeritus of the political magazine, The American Conservative.

In the middle two hours, author, columnist, and television commentator Pat Buchanan discussed his new book State of Emergency, which deals with the immigration crisis. We're raised on the myth that the U.S. is a nation of immigrants-- but it is much different today, he said; the numbers of those coming into the country are far greater, they're breaking in, and they are uninterested in assimilating. "The melting pot is cracked and broken," Buchanan declared, adding that we need a security fence along the entire southern border, in order to stem the influx. He pointed at the drive towards globalism, in which the elite are planning a North American Union, as a factor that is preventing America from defending its borders more vigorously. What we're seeing now is the de-facto re-annexation of the American Southwest-- ethnically, culturally and linguistically by Mexicans and Hispanics, Buchanan commented. The last hour of the show was devoted to Open Lines.
