New Year's Eve 'Blue Moon'

A "blue moon" (the second full moon within one month) will rise this Thursday night, on New Year's Eve. Making the occasion especially rare is a partial lunar eclipse that will be visible in such places as Europe, Africa, and Asia. More at Space.com.
