George Noory

Guests:

Linda Moulton Howe, Michael Shedlock, Dr. Jerald J. Block

Investigative reporter Linda Moulton Howe discussed the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), honey bee disorders, cell phone dangers, and cat mutilation cases. First, she delved into what scientists hope to discover with the LHC experiments at CERN. She interviewed Particle Physicist Joseph Lykken, Ph.D., who explained it was unlikely they'd produce black holes. But if they did, these objects would almost immediately evaporate into regular particles, so there was no danger in what they were doing. They hope to learn more about gravity, the origins of the universe, as well as produce dark matter particles, Lykken said.

In her second presentation, Linda connected the problem of honey bee disorders with the usage of certain pesticides. Nicotine-based pesticides have been shown to interfere with bee memories in lab tests, and the crop pesticide Movento, made by Bayer, was recently approved by the EPA even though it was known to kill honey bee larvae, she detailed.

Linda discussed the growing concern about electromagnetic pollution and cell phone health dangers. She interviewed Prof. of Epidemiology Devra Davis who warned of brain tumors and fertility problems associated with cell phone radiation over time. Linda also outlined Dr. Ronald Herberman's 11 precautions in the use of cell phones.

The mysterious problem of cats and other animals being mutilated or halved, and found bloodless with organs removed, was the subject of Linda's last report. A spate of such incidents have taken place recently in Corpus Christi and near Palm Springs, CA. She interviewed one pet owner whose cat was found in such a condition. Authorities concluded the attack wasn't caused by a coyote because the cuts were so precise.

Internet Addiction

Appearing briefly at the start of the show, Dr. Jerald Block reported on Internet, texting, and computer addiction. He has developed a technological tool to help people control their computer usage.

Bailout Analysis

First hour guest, financial analyst Mish Shedlock offered commentary on the federal bailout plan, which he called the biggest tax increase in history, and a power grab by Paulson and the Fed. For more, see his recent blog entry.
