Guests:

Mark Sceurman, Mark Moran, Walter L. Wagner

During the middle two hours, publishers of the Weird U.S. book series, and Weird New Jersey Magazine, Mark Moran & Mark Sceurman spoke about strange occurrences across NJ & America, including UFO/alien encounters, hauntings, curious attractions, and unexplained creatures. The duo's work incorporates both the chronicling of folklore & legend, as well as current anomalous phenomena.

One of Moran's favorite UFO sightings took place in 1966 at the Wanaque Reservoir in New Jersey where witnesses (including police officers) described a night of mayhem, including a UFO burning holes with a beam of light into the ice of the reservoir. Sceurman cited a 1978 incident, in which 11 aliens reportedly touched down at a park in Bergen County, NJ. An alien was also shot at McGuire AFB, he added.

While just about every state seems to have its own cryptozoological "mascots," New Jersey seems to have an inordinate amount of strange reports & events, the two said. In addition to the New Jersey Devil, they described sightings of "Big Red Eye," a Bigfoot-like creature. Among their many field trips in New Jersey, Sceurman & Moran spoke about seeing the strange sight of 30 starched white shirts nailed to trees in the Pine Barrens, 15 ft. in the air. They also talked about meeting Dr. Beard of the Hollow Earth Society, who told them there was an entrance to the Inner Earth in NJ, and of his journeys to the fantastical realms there.

In the last hour, during Open Lines, callers shared their own weird stories.

CERN Update

First hour guest, scientist Walter Wagner shared an update on possible dangers from the planned Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments at CERN. According to the analysis of three physicists, it's possible that microscopic black holes created by the LHC could grow larger rather than dissipate. More here.
