A Medium's Forecast

Hans Christian King, an internationally acclaimed direct voice medium, shared his predictions for 2005 which he garnered from his four spirit guides. He expressed strong concerns over the prospect of terrorism in the U.S. in the coming year or in the first part of 2006, with a dirty bomb possibly being used. The biggest threat to the American economy though, is the deficit, which if not addressed could bankrupt the country, he said.

King stated there will be a major government scandal involving the President in the next five or six months as well as revelations concerning election voting fraud. Other predictions included:
  • The hurricane season will be about the same as the one in 2004.
  • Gas prices will stay within 50¢ of where they are now.
  • The National Hockey League will probably not have a season.
  • This will be the Pope's last year in his position.

He also spoke about some of his more unusual readings such as one with a Los Angeles screenwriter whose deceased father communicated through him his suggestions for an entire script his son was working on (which later became a well-known film). In another case, the spirit of a departed father spoke to King as he was walking in San Francisco, and told him to go into a restaurant and tell his son "Mikey" not to commit suicide, which he was able to do.

    Tales of Lily Dale

Lily Dale is known as the town that talks to the dead. A Victorian village located in southwestern New York state, it was founded in 1879 and contains a large number of mediums and spiritualists. In Christine Wicker's book Lily Dale, in which she immersed herself in the town over a period of weeks, she writes that some 20,000 guests arrive each summer to consult the mediums. The mediums, she notes, must pass a test by the Lily Dale board to confirm their connection to the spirit world.

One well known medium was Jack Kelly, whose flashy performances mesmerized audiences in the 1940's. One of his feats included driving from Lily Dale to Buffalo (a distance of 60 miles) while blindfolded, and it was said that when he was pulled over by a state patrolman, he gave him such an accurate spirit reading, that he wasn't even ticketed.

Mae West was a client of Kelly's and she claimed that after his death he appeared to her dressed in a tuxedo, Wicker reported. Other famous visitors included the magician Harry Houdini (whom the mediums were said to fear) and suffragette Susan B. Anthony. Upon visiting one medium who told Anthony she had a message from her aunt, Anthony replied: "I didn't like her when she was alive, and I don't want to hear from her now. Why don't you bring someone interesting like Elizabeth Cady?"
