The Middle East & Green Fuel

Author Howard Bloom returned for a discussion on both Middle East issues as well as the green fuel revolution. We are in the midst of a 1,400 year-long global war with Islam, and Mohammed himself was a commander of numerous military expeditions, he noted. Though Bloom said he is a lifelong Democrat, he feels it is essential for the US to stay involved in Iraq and the Middle East. "We can't avert our eyes," to the nuclear threat from Islamic terrorists and Iran, he emphasized.

A member of the Advanced Technologies Working Group, Bloom addressed energy topics in the latter half of the program. Biofuels, which are being produced by 73 companies can serve as a good interim solution before hybrid vehicles and solar arrays are fully implemented, he commented. Many people may already own cars that can run on biofuel (see this list). Additionally, he said the Fuel Choices for American Security Act, a bill with bi-partisan backing, should be supported.

Running on Corn

At a time when America is struggling to overcome its addiction to foreign oil, GM recently launched a campaign, Live Green Go Yellow, which promotes their new E85 "FlexFuel," a product made primarily from ethanol (derived from corn). There are already 1.5 million flexible-fuel vehicles on the road, which can run on either gas or ethanol, and stations are increasingly offering E85 at the pump. More here.
