Watch: Thousands of Unexplained Ice Balls Wash Ashore in Russia

An odd video out of Russia shows thousands of ice balls that had washed ashore and no one seems to know where they came from.

Yuryi Shahov spotted the strange scene at an area of the country known as the Gulf of Finland, where the baffling balls of ice had collected on the water as far as the eye could see.

Fortunately, the quick thinking witness managed to capture some footage of the event, although the origins of the objects appears to be up for debate.

Some have speculated that the balls are simply rocks covered in ice, while other observers suggested that they are the end product of an epic snowball fight.

Those who subscribe to the latter theory will hopefully hold off on using the mystery balls for ammunition in a similar battle as an ecological expert has opined that they may be a product of chemical pollution.

One wild hypothesis that can be crossed off the list for sure is that the balls are whale eggs, which was an idea actually suggested by someone, since the mighty sea creatures are, of course, mammals.
