Jupiter Gets a Close-Up

Jupiter Gets a Close-Up

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope snapped some shots of Jupiter, as our solar system's largest planet made its closest approach to Earth in a year-- a mere 415 million miles away.

The spectacular views include the Great Red Spot, a massive storm cycle that is larger than the Earth itself, and has swirled for at least 150 years. Also on view is what has been dubbed "Red Spot Jr.," a smaller storm to the right that has been intensifying over the years.

More at NASA, and the NY Times.
