Queen of Sweden Says Royal Palace is Haunted

Queen of Sweden Says Royal Palace is Haunted

A new documentary on the centuries-old palace that serves as the home to the Swedish royal family includes a remarkable revelation from the country's queen.

In the film, which details the rich history of Sweden's Drottningholm Palace, Queen Silvia opened up about spirits that she believes reside in her royal home.

"There's a lot of history here. There are also little friends ... the ghosts. They're all very friendly, but you sometimes feel like you aren't alone," Silvia said in an interview for the film.

The 73-year-old royal was surprisingly easygoing about encountering ghosts inside the palace and marveled that "you don't get scared, it's as friendly as there is. Imagine what they could tell?"

Silvia's claims about such spirits inhabiting the home were bolstered by another member of the Swedish royal family who expressed certainty that the palace is haunted.

Princess Christina told the filmmakers that "there are ghosts in all old houses. Definitely. There's a lot of energy in that house and it would be strange if it didn’t express itself in the form of sounds and shapes."

Indeed the possibility that the palace could be haunted is not an entirely outlandish premise, but what makes it noteworthy is that the royal family certainly seems to think that is the case.

It's an intriguing glimpse behind the curtain that makes one wonder what sorts of strange and unusual phenomena may have been experienced by other royal families over the years.
