Watch: Hippo Hits the Streets After Circus Escape

Perhaps inspired by the end of Ringling Brothers' use of elephants, a hippopotamus from a Spanish circus made a daring escape and took to the streets in search of freedom.

During its getaway, the enormous creature plodded into traffic and stunned onlookers in the town of Palos de la Frontera on Wednesday night.

Fortunately for witnesses to the strange scene, the hippo seemed more confused than cranky and, thus, did not lash out at any innocent bystanders.

On the other hand, the creature's massive size did not allow for it to make a stealthy escape and it was captured by circus workers shortly after its absence was realized.

To those who may dream of someday running away to join the circus, perhaps the hippo's big adventure should serve as a reminder that the carnival is not all its cracked up to be.
