Winds Trigger Quakes

Mercer University physicist Randall Peters believes hurricanes can set off earthquakes and even cause the Earth to vibrate. In August 2004, he recorded a series of "micro-tremors" as Hurricane Charley reached the Florida peninsula. The seismometer also recorded a "sharp seismic spike" as Charley brushed by the continental shelf. Still more shocking, the storm caused the planet to tremble at low-frequency vibrations.
