A blind mystic from Bulgaria, who is credited with having predicted 9/11 and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, put forward a pair of prognostications for 2018.
By way of alleged visions of the future, Baba Vanga purportedly foresaw a litany of events including political upheavals, natural disasters, and scientific breakthroughs which she claimed would unfold in the future.
Although she died in 1996, the supposed soothsayer left behind numerous proclamations concerning events said to occur in the years following her death.
For the forthcoming year, Vanga predicted that 2018 would see two significant events take place: China surpassing the United States as the world's top superpower and the discovery of a new form of energy from Venus.
The former prediction may be one best left to economists to interpret and seems like something that might only be able to be confirmed in hindsight.
However, the vague nature of the 'vision' gives Vanga some leeway, in a sense, since her forecast that 'Europe would cease to exist' in 2016 is seen by some as a reference to Brexit.
Meanwhile, the latter prognostication may be even more problematic as there are no plans by any of the world's various space agencies to study Venus in 2018.
This makes it hard to fathom how the planet could produce some kind of new insight if no one is looking at it during the year.
Of course, we won't know for certain whether or not Vanga is correct about these events until around this time next year.
To that end, one prediction that is almost certain to come true in 2018 is that Baba Vanga will once again appear at the end of the year with a forecast for 2019.
