Freaky Meat-eating Sponge Found

A new carnivorous sponge has been discovered in the waters off California's Monterey Bay at a depth of nearly two miles beneath the surface. Dubbed the "harp sponge" because of its resemblance to a stringed instrument, the unusual creature uses Velcro-like barbed hooks to snare crustaceans. Once captured, the meat-eating sponge envelopes its prey in a thin membrane and begins the slow process of digesting it. More from Our Amazing Planet.
