Melisse De La Mare, of Portland, Oregon, says she lost her wedding ring on a skiing trip in 1992 soon after she married her husband Jim. The heirloom originally belonged to her mother-in-law and had great sentimental value beyond the fact that it was the one her husband slipped on her finger on their wedding day.
Heather Langley, a jewelry maker in Bessemer, Alabama, says a customer recently told her about a ring he found while working at the ski area in the early 1990s. Langley began using the engraving on the ring, internet searches and the help a local Oregon news reporter to locate the original owner.
Langley took a flight to Portland recently to deliver the ring in person, She and De La Mare have become friends and plan to meet again on a trip to the East Coast this winter.
