Despite the many beneficial effects attributed to meditation, a new series of studies have revealed some surprisingly negative outcomes associated with the practice. According to researchers, meditation techniques may cause depression and psychosis as well as other adverse psychological conditions such as panic and hallucinations. These new findings have inspired a call for more balanced investigation into the practice rather than the overwhelmingly positive portrayal that meditation currently receives from the media.
