This was found in a friend's house he bought a couple of years ago. The previous owners left most of their things behind. It has the year it was made written into the back of it--1897. Hand carved on a 1/4" thick piece of a wood I am not familiar with (and I am a carpenter), it appears to be pressed stamp if I am not mistaken. I would like to know if any of you guys can tell me what this is? The symbolism is pretty strong but I have not seen the Cross and Anchor like that before.
Updates: Bret H. writes:
The writing on the "Curious Wood Carving" is translated here. It's apparently an old German blessing.
Zebrina F. shares a link about the anchor as an early Christian symbol.
