For those that can't find work, or are under employed, gardening is a great help. Many people grow gardens in their back yard, but I am here to tell you that a lawn in the front yard is like putting your money in a no interest bank account. Of course we garden in the back yard, but why allow the front yard to be lazy or just grow grass ? These days every penny counts, and every square foot of yard can help feed my family.
This year, I grew 54 Acorn Squash in my front yard and most squash near 2 pounds each. I also grew herbs and bamboo along with many normal garden produce here in western Nebraska. Never buy what you can grow! I also plant along the riverbanks near my house. This is little different than when the Native American tribes followed the herds and scattered seed along creeks and then, when returning, they had crops to eat in the winter.
