In the first half of the program, author and speaker Dr. Susan Shumsky talked about astral possession and shared her own nightmarish possession experience, which happened the first time she tried the psychedelic drug LSD. Shumsky said afterward she was plagued by visual and auditory hallucinations, and even sought the help of a psychiatrist to find relief. A cure eventually came through transcendental meditation, she noted.
Shumsky explained how people can be bound with 'psychic ties' formed by the residue left over from negative experiences, and stressed the importance of cutting these cords in order to have better more intimate relationships. Shumsky suggested those afflicted by psychic ties say the following prayer:
"I now call upon [the god of your understanding] to cut all psychic ties between myself and [name of person]. These psychic ties are now lovingly cut, lifted, blessed, healed, released and let go into the divine light."
Shumsky spoke about 'psychic vampires' and 'psychic bullies' who drain and manipulate their victims. She offered a daily affirmation to help people maintain their self-authority and deal with these attacks:
"I am in control. I am the only authority in my life. I am divinely protected by the light of my being. I close off my aura and body of light to the lower astral levels of mind and I open to the spiritual world."
Shumsky also discussed 'faker spirits,' who pretend to be other beings in order to attach themselves to living humans and control them. According to Shumsky, a simple method of astral healing can be employed to de-possess people. Rather than driving out a demonic spirit (which would just go piggy back someone else's soul), she attempts to heal the entity and send it into the divine light.
During Open Lines, George offered a special 'Luck' line. Derek in Dallas recalled his first visit to New York City in September 2001. He and a fellow truck driver had made plans to eat breakfast together at the World Trade Center. Through a rather fortuitous mix-up, the two truckers had ended up just missing each other at their respective trucks, delaying their departure long enough to avoid being victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Chris in Alabama said he narrowly escaped being killed in a head-on collision because his mother had insisted he move from the front seat to the back to recover from a bout of motion sickness. When the car was struck it flipped numerous times, causing a 50-pound spare tire to dislodge and crash into the front seat where it would have surely crushed him. Luckier still, Chris was pulled from the wreckage by his mother only seconds before the car rolled off a cliff.
Other compelling callers included Ryan in San Diego, who reported on the results of his ESP experiment. According to Ryan, the psychic communication between he and his friends was vague at the beginning, but became clearer and more accurate the longer they worked at it. Ten-year-old Bobby in Los Angeles phoned in to share his experience seeing a strange 'blurry shadow' move across his bedroom. George also asked Bobby to do a Coast to Coast AM radio promo.
