Space.com has posted an artist's rendering of the supergiant star Betelgeuse, captured using state-of-the-art techniques on the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope. The view shows the star has a colossal gas plume about as large as our Solar System and helps explain how these giants cast off material at such a vast rate.
