Astronomy Photo of the Year: Andromeda Galaxy

A stunning image of the Andromeda Galaxy has taken overall winner in this year's Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition held by the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Nicolas Lefaudeux of France snapped the winning photo which beat out thousands of other entries from photographers around the globe. Lefaudeux's mind-blowing image was created using a custom 3D-printed camera attachment to produce the tilt-shift effect that makes the galaxy seem like it is only arm's length away.
