China Bans 'Weird' Buildings

Artistic architects will no longer be able to create breathtaking buildings in China after the country issued a formal ban on 'weird architecture.'

The decree follows Chinese president Xi Jinping decrying the proliferation of strange-shaped buildings in 2014.

Now the Chinese government has officially put an end to the odd buildings which inspired reactions ranging from awe to derision.

As the bizarre buildings garnered more and more attention over the last few years, the Chinese government grew agitated over structures that it saw as being too flamboyant and Westernized.

Under the new restrictions, future buildings in China must be "economical, functional, aesthetically pleasing or environmentally friendly."

The likely culprit behind the regulations is probably the now-infamous Gate of the Orient dual skyscraper which gained worldwide notoriety for its resemblance to a pair of pants.
