A strange case of misidentification occurred in an English town earlier this week when residents mistook lights from a visiting circus for some kind of alien invasion.
The confusion, which took place in the town of Horwich on Monday evening, began when numerous members of the community noticed odd lights and laser beams dancing across the sky.
The weirdness was apparently off-putting enough that several witnesses actually called the police and expressed concern over what they were seeing.
Authorities eventually issued a statement on their Facebook page to assure the public that they were not about to become enslaved by ET overlords.
"This is not the start of an alien invasion," police said, "but rather the show lights emitting from the circus."
Hopefully the cops who checked out the reports got it right, since this story sounds suspiciously similar to the start of the classic cult film Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
