Company to Launch Artificial Shooting Stars

Japanese company ALE has announced plans to produce the world's first human-made meteor shower in 2025. The project, called Sky Canvas, will involve sending small one-centimeter metallic pellets into space and releasing them around 400 kilometers above the Earth. The firm's researchers have successfully created multi-colored shooting stars in ground-based experiments but is unclear if they can be produced in orbit. The Tokyo-based firm hopes to also gain climate insights by collecting data in the mesosphere - an under-researched layer of the atmosphere located between 50 to 85 kilometers above the planet.
