Crocodiles to Guard Death Row Convicts

While "deadly jaws of incarceration" may sound like the title of a 1970s Kung Fu movie, it's actually a plot to have crocodiles guard death row convicts in Indonesia.

The proposal, initiated by the Southeast Asian country's anti-drugs agency, is twofold: first, build an island fortress to hold the nation's death row drug convicts. Then, surround the remote jail with deadly crocodiles so that no one dare escape, according to an official.

The scheme was concocted by the nation's anti-drug czar, Budi Waseo, who intends to scout the Indonesian archipelago to find the hungriest man-eaters available to guard the jail.

“We will place as many crocodiles as we can there. I will search for the most ferocious type of crocodile,” he told local news.

Not only will the crocodiles be an escape deterrent, they have a big advantage over human guards.

“You can’t bribe crocodiles," Waseo said. "You can’t convince them to let inmates escape.”

Nor can you convince them not to eat you.
