Daredevil Skydiver to Jump Without a Parachute

A courageous skydiver will be attempting an audacious stunt this weekend when he leaps from a plane with no parachute and, hopefully, lands in a giant net!

Although he has performed over 18,000 jumps in the past, Luke Aikins knows that this particular feat will be far different from anything he's done before.

From a jaw-dropping height of 25,000 feet, the skydiver will hurtle through the air until, ostensibly, landing in a massive net designed to break his fall.

The net in question measures 100 square feet and will be elevated twenty stories so that it will be able to withstand Aikins' unorthodox arrival.

Experts coordinating the stunt have repeatedly tested it using dummies that weigh two-hundred-pounds and express confidence that the 'leap of faith' will go off without a hitch.

While many adjectives may be used to describe Aikins, he stresses that 'fearless' may not be one of them.

"If I wasn't nervous I would be stupid," he told the Guardian, "We're talking about jumping without a parachute, and I take that very seriously. It's not a joke."

And, as one might expect, the entire exploit will air live on the Fox network this Sunday night in a special with the somewhat worrisome title 'Heaven Sent.'

Although network executives assure the viewing public that the program will be broadcast on a delay in case something goes awry, we're sincerely hoping for Aikins' sake, that they do not need to cut the transmission.
