ETs Using Galactic Center as Beacon?

A new project involving SETI scientists, Cornell University, and the $100 million Breakthrough Listen initiative will focus its attention on the center of the Milky Way galaxy. The researchers theorize an extraterrestrial civilization could be using the galactic core as a beacon to announce important events. According to Akshay Suresh, the project's lead author, the center of our galaxy is densely packed with star systems and an optimum location for galaxy-wide transmissions to occur. The project will utilize the Green Bank Telescope, the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope, to look for repetitive patterns or pulsed signals which may point to alien communications.
