"Flying Saucer" Test Flight

On Saturday, NASA's tested its own "flying saucer," the Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD). Attached to a high-altitude balloon, the vehicle was released 120,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, and it then successfully switched over to powered flight before making a water landing. NASA is considering using the LDSD as a way to land large payloads or cargo on the surface of Mars. More here.
