'Ghost' Lobster Caught in Maine

A fisherman from Maine recently captured a rather remarkable lobster that looks almost translucent.

The odd catch was made by Alex Todd of Chebeague Island, who shared photos of the weird lobster with the Maine Coast Fisherman's Association.

According to the group, the lobster's ghostly appearance was probably the result of a genetic mutation causing a condition known as Leucism, where pigmentation is nearly nonexistent.

However, that is only a guess, since the lobster was an egg-bearing female and, thus, the creature had be thrown back into the ocean in accordance with fishing regulations.

And so we'll never know exactly what gave the lobster it's eerie hue and, perhaps more importantly, how the eerie-looking creature would have tasted alongside a bowl of melted butter.
