Huge Sunspot Aimed at Earth

It's the equivalent of a celestial shotgun and it's pointed directly at our planet. An erupting active region of the sun, known as AR1476, has rotated into view and been captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. The monster sunspot is huge, with a complex beneath the active area roughly the size of Jupiter. Sunspots appear dark because they are relatively cool compared to the surrounding region.
