Humanoid Robots Could Help Tackle Dangerous Jobs

Tech giants including Amazon and Microsoft have collectively invested around $675 million in Figure AI, a robotics startup with ambitious plans to bring the first commercial humanoid robot powered by AI to market. This funding round dwarfs the company's previous $70 million raise. Amazon's Jeff Bezos, via Explore Investments LLC, pledged $100 million, while Microsoft invested $95 million. Figure AI aims to develop its first AI humanoid, Figure 01, to tackle dangerous tasks and mitigate worker shortages In a groundbreaking deal, Figure AI has partnered with BMW to deploy Figure 01 in their Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, where it will assist in tasks like high-voltage battery assembly and electric vehicle manufacturing.
