A Canadian couple who inadvertently purchased an infamous haunted asylum are fed up with ghost hunters and government officials meddling in their lives. According to a local media report, Roger Thivierge and Marie-Claude Martineau's troubles began back in 2009 when they purchased a sizeable piece of property in the village of Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton. Unbeknownst to the duo at the time, an abandoned building at the location, which they envisioned renovating and turning into a bulldog breeding business, boasted quite the reputation for paranormal activity.
However, they soon realized that something was amiss when the property was besieged by ghost hunters nearly from the moment they moved onto the site. Curious about what was causing this commotion, the couple soon learned that the building once served as an asylum and, in 1988, nine patients died in a horrific fire at the site. As one can imagine, the tragic event led to the location becoming a destination for curious paranormal enthusiasts who were willing to do whatever it took to get into the eventually-shuttered building.
Upon realizing that they were now the owners of a notorious haunted asylum and that there was seemingly nothing they could do to stop unwanted visitors trying to trespass onto the site, the couple pivoted from their original plans and began offering tours of the location. They subsequently spent the next several years hosting an array of ghost hunting groups from around the world. But, alas, it seems that the days of paranormal parties are over thanks to village officials.
It appears that an attempt at getting a permit to host a Halloween gathering at the asylum irked the local government considerably and led to an unfortunate twist in the couples' spooky saga. Rather than allow for the festivities, officials instead ordered that a chain link fence be installed around the building and deemed it unsafe to enter. After months of battling with the village over the asylum's status while also reckoning with people still trying to get inside the building, the couple have opted put the property up for sale and, hopefully, put an end to the proverbial haunting that the site unleashed upon their lives.
