Scientists have a discovered a "supervoid"-- an empty spherical blob (circled in white in the image) that currently holds the title of being the largest known structure in the universe-- a mind boggling 1.8 billion light years across. The area was first noticed as being an unusually "cold" spot where around 10,000 galaxies seemed to be missing. More here.
