On the heels of a tantalizing potential Tasmanian tiger video released earlier this month, a new piece of footage has emerged that may show an even clearer picture of the creature.
The remarkable video, which was shot in 2008 but is only being seen for the first time now, was captured by a woman in western Victoria, Australia.
According to Neil Waters of the Thylacine Awareness Group of Australia, the witness recorded the footage at around dusk and attempted to zoom in on the mystery animal as much as her camera would allow.
In the video, a dog-like creature, sporting a large head and the stiff tail often associated with the Tasmanian Tiger, can be seen bounding through a field.
Incredibly, in an interview also included in the clip, the woman told Waters that she had seen the possible thylacine "at least a dozen" times on different occasions over the course of about a year.
She described different incidents such as spotting what seemed to be a mother thylacine with two smaller Tasmanian tiger cubs all of which had the telltale stripes of the elusive animal.
The woman also recalled seeing a thylacine and a fox in the field at the same time, which convinced her that she was not misidentifying the Tasmanian tigers she kept seeing.
Of course, all of this is remarkable because the thylacine was declared extinct in 1936, meaning that the woman should not be seeing such a creature residing in the field near her home.
Credit should be given to Neil Waters and the Thylacine Awareness Group of Australia, who have been doing a commendable job raising awareness of the creature over the last few weeks.
Hopefully the newfound interest in the Tasmanian tiger can lead to renewed efforts by the Australian government or wildlife groups in the country to prove once and for all the animal still lives in the wild.
