Video: Mummified Body of Missing Sailor Found on Yacht

February 26, 2016 Filipino authorities responding to the report of a drifting vessel were aghast when they discovered the mummified body of a sailor aboard the ghost ship.

The eerily well-preserved remains provided a chilling glimpse of the man's last moments.

The sailor sits at the cabin desk with the ship's radio nearby as if he was desperately hoping for some kind of contact with the outside world.

Paperwork found on the ship later identified the man as German adventurer Manfred Fritz Bajorat who was last seen in 2009.

Salty air along with oceanic temperatures and winds are credited with the remarkable preservation of Bajorat's body.

Further investigation into Bajorat's life revealed that he had been sailing around the world with his wife for twenty years, but the two split in 2008, leaving him to helm the ship alone.

After his wife passed away from cancer two years later, he penned a tribute to her on a sailing website that included the haunting line, "the power of the demons was stronger than the will to live."

How long Bajorat kept sailing and what killed him remain a mystery, but his last words seem to indicate that he may have died from a broken heart.
