Photos: Northern Lights Dazzle the UK

Stargazers in Britain and along the Scottish coast were treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights this past week. Streaks of electric pink and green lit up the evening skies over Norfolk, Middlesbrough, and Wiltshire (home to Stonehenge). Typically, the Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, are most often seen over locations closer to the Earth's magnetic poles, such as Alaska and Scandinavia. The aurora borealis atmospheric phenomenon occurs when particles charged by the sun collide with Earth's atmosphere. Check out stunning photos of the recent activity over the UK.
