Powerful Winds Topple Communications Tower

Earlier this week winds in excess of 100mph toppled a communications tower on the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. "Initial thought was down due to power or some other issue," according to Communications Director C.L. Folsom. After the strong winds abated, crew found the once upright radio tower twisted and bent over like a pretzel. In addition to providing the region with cell reception, the tower was also used by Homeland Security; the agency is currently using a nearby Border Patrol tower as backup.
