The four astronauts of SpaceX's first long-duration crewed flight splashed down early Sunday morning off the coast of Panama City, Florida. It was the first time astronauts attempted a nighttime splashdown since 1968, when the crew of Apollo 8 landed in the dark waters of the Pacific Ocean. The SpaceX crew departed the International Space Station at 8:35 PM EDT on Saturday, May 1 aboard the Dragon capsule called Resilience. The recovery crews have already recovered a Cargo vehicle at night. According to NASA's commercial crew program manager Steve Stitch, the Cargo and Crew Dragon capsules are virtually identical.
