Star Shrapnel Hurtling Through Galaxy

A piece of a white dwarf star blown apart by a supernova explosion is speeding through the Milky Way at close to 2 million miles per hour. The object, known as LP 40-365, is located approximately 2,000 light years from Earth, and moving so quickly it is likely to leave our galaxy. The fast-moving star shrapnel was discovered from data collected by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite and Hubble Space Telescope.
