Three Tons of Gold Bars Fall From Russian Cargo Plane

A bizarre incident in the sky over Siberia saw nearly 200 gold bars tear through a cargo plane and plummet to the ground.

The massive cache of bullion, which weighed a whopping three tons, was part of an even larger haul of treasure which included silver and diamonds that were packed into the plane.

It is believed that these particular pieces of gold were not properly secured inside the plane when it took to the air and, shortly thereafter, the crushing weight of the bars dislodged a hatch on the vessel.

In turn, 172 gold bars and one rather large piece of the plane fell from the sky and rained down onto the runway below, leaving it looking as if it had been poorly paved with gold.

Russian authorities soon swarmed the area in an effort to collect all of the lost loot as the unfortunate individuals aboard the cargo plane that now sported a sizeable hole in it landed at an airport nearby.

According to state-owned media reports, the recovery mission was successful, although they may just be saying that to discourage treasure hunters from combing the area.
